GFC, and Goodwill Co. 10 were dispatched at 18:47 Tuesday evening for a vehicle fire on northbound Rt. 222 between the Schuylkill River bridge and the Rt. 61 exit.
Engine 55 arrived on scene at 17:04 to find a Toyota Corolla parked on the right shoulder with its engine compartment fully engulfed in flames, and the vehicle’s two occupants safely out and away from the vehicle.
Chief Engineer Eric Thrush parked Engine 55 across the number 2 lane of northbound Rt. 222 in order to create a buffer zone behind the vehicle to allow firefighters to safely work. Firefighters then pulled E55’s trash line to fight the blaze. The fire was extinguished by 19:08.
Meanwhile, Fire Police Capt. Terry Royce and FF Dylan Heckman shut down both northbound lanes of Rt. 222 so that firefighters and vehicle recovery personnel could safely clean up the debris and remove the vehicle.
