Early Sunday afternoon, December 11th, the GFC received a dispatch for a vehicle fire on Victory Circle in Van Reed Estates and Meadows. E55 responded with Asst. Chief Terry Royce at the helm and a crew of 3.
Upon arrival on scene, the GFC crew found the vehicle in question was not that of an automobile, but that of a snowmobile. Bern Township Police Officer Christian Lengel was already on scene and had extinguished the fire with a dry chemical fire extinguisher. The snowmobile was parked on the front lawn of the residence, about 30 feet from the building and was still smoking.
With the odder of gasoline hanging thickly in the air and the snowmobile still smoking, Asst. Chief Terry Royce, fearing re-ignition, ordered firefighters to pull E55’s booster line to give the vehicle a thorough soaking.
The fire appeared to be caused by a fuel leak that occurred while the owner, in anticipation of a potential snow storm, was testing the vehicle on his front lawn.
No one was injured in the incident and there was no estimate of damage to the snowmobile, or the lawn.
Those responding for the GFC were:
Chief Brian Fisher
Asst. Chief Terry Royce
Ryan Noll, Dylan Heckman, and Dylan Matz

(It should be noted that this was former Jr. Firefighter Dylan Matz’s first call as an Exterior Firefighter.)
