In the pre-dawn hours of December 12th, the GFC received a dispatch for a vehicle fire on Rt. 183 in near Enersys.
The GFC crew arrived on scene at approximately 06:45 and found a Ford compact sedan on the southbound shoulder of Rt. 183. The fire had been extinguished by a passer-by using a dry chemical fire extinguisher. The owner of the vehicle was uninjured and standing on the grass alongside southbound Rt. 183.
The fire was confined to the interior of the vehicle and Asst. Chief Terry Royce instructed FF Dylan Heckman to soak the interior using E55’s booster line. Meanwhile, FF Dylan Matz and Asst. Chief Terry Royce proceeded to pop the hood to disconnect the battery, since the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.
Asst. Chief Terry Royce had parked E55 in the southbound lane of Rt. 183 in such a way as to divert traffic around the scene until V&M towing could remove the vehicle. Traffic flow was only slightly impacted.
The scene was cleared by 07:30 and E55 and crew returned to the GFC Station.
Those responding for the GFC were:
