On Sunday, April 2, at 07:28, the GFC, along wth Bernville 29, Temple 11, Mt. Pleasant 30, Leesport 37, Western Berks 18, Wyomissing 79, Township of Spring 85, and Western Berks Ambulance were dispatched to vehicle fire on Leisczs Bridge Road and Ulrich Lane. The vehicle in question was reported to be next to a building.
Upon arrival, the GFC crew found a commercial van fully involved in fire in the parking in the parking lot of Berkshire Mechanical. The entrance to the parking lot, however, was blocked by a locked gate. Chief Fisher immediately ordered a forced entry to be executed. A crew member using a battery powered “Jaws of Life” was able to cut the chain locking the gate to gain access to the burning van.
Once the gate was opened firefighters pulled E55s trash line and attacked the blaze. The fire was quickly extinguished and any extension of fire to the adjacent building was prevented. The van, however, was a total loss.
The cause of the fire could not be determined.
Those responding for the GFC were:
