The Greenfields Fire Co., along with West Reading Co. 64, Temple Co 11, Spring Twp. Fire Dept Co 85, and Western Berks Ambulance, was dispatched to a report of a pick-up truck into a tree, with entrapment, on Aviation Road early Saturday evening.
Upon arrival the GFC Crew found a GMC pick-up truck, that had been traveling southbound on Aviation Road, had struck a tree just south of Industrial Metal Plating’s plant. The driver’s side door was jammed shut trapping the driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, inside.
GFC firefighter Joe Green used a battery operated “Jaws of Life” combination tool to pry the driver’s side door open in order to extricate the patient. The patient, who complained of leg, back, and neck pain, was transported to a local area hospital by Western Berks Ambulance for treatment.
Bern Township Fire Police redirected traffic on Aviation Road while the Bern Township Police investigated the incident. The vehicle was later removed by V&M Towing and normal traffic flow on Aviation Road was resumed shortly after 7:30 p.m.
Those responding for the GFC were: Assistant Chief Scott Trate; FF Joe Green; Fire Police Capt. Charlie Kerschner; Fire Police Officer Donny Sando; and Photographer Steve Spies.
