On Wednesday, December 14, @ 10:44, the GFC, along with Mt. Pleasant Rescue 30 and Western Berks Ambulance were dispatched to an MVA with injuries on County Welfare Rd. near Prison Rd. E55 responded with a crew of 2 and arrived on scene at approximately 10:53.
Upon arrival the GFC crew found that a westbound Volkswagen Tiguan had veered off the road while rounding a curve, and had struck a tree. The driver, and lone occupant of the SUV, had been removed from the vehicle by two nurses who had witnessed the crash.
GFC Chief Brian Fisher and FF Gary Rarick immediately assisted with patient evaluation until Western Berks Ambulance arrived. Once Western Berks Ambulance arrived, GFC and Mt. Pleasant firefighters assisted with placement of the patient onto a gurney and into the ambulance for transport. The patient’s injuries were not specified.
Bern Township Fire Police directed traffic around the scene until the vehicle could be removed by V&M Towing. The scene was cleared, and normal traffic flow resumed around 11:15.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
