At 08:59 Thursday morning, October 20th, the GFC received a dispatch for fluids and debris down, and vehicle into a building on Grange Rd. at Fairview Dr.
Upon arrival at 09:15, the GFC crew found Mt. Pleasant Rescue 30, Schuylkill Valley EMS, and The Bern Twp. Police on scene where an SUV had crashed into the Fairview Inn. A tow truck from V&M Towing was also on scene and was removing the vehicle from the building.
GFC crew members immediately began spreading “Oil Dry” on the spilled fluids while also cleaning up the crash debris. GFC personnel also took on fire police duties by directing traffic around the scene.
An SUV traveling northbound on Fairview Drive had reportedly swerved to avoid hitting an animal. The vehicle then ran off the left side of the road and struck a mailbox. The vehicle then traveled on, going between a tree and a road sign, then hit and uprooted a juniper tree, and finally came to rest in the A/B corner the Fairmont Inn.
The driver of the SUV was uninjured and refused transport to local a hospital.
The building was declared structurally sound by the Bern Twp. building inspector and the scene was cleared by 10:00. The GFC crew returned to the station.
