At 07:33 on Monday morning, February 29th, GFC Engine 55 and Western Berks Ambulance were dispatched to a single vehicle MVA on Rt. 183 at Red Bridge Rd.
Engine 55 arrived on scene at about 07:41 to find a Cadillac DeVille sedan parked on the southbound shoulder of Rt. 183 about 150 feet south of Red Bridge Rd. with the driver still inside.
Probationary FF Craig Huntsinger evaluated the driver who was shook-up but apparently uninjured and was advised to stay in the vehicle until EMS arrived. Western Berks Ambulance arrived a few minutes later and took over care of the patient. EMS and GFC personnel proceeded to remove the patient from the vehicle after which the patient was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
GFC firefighters cleaned up leaking engine fluids and debris. Bern Township Fire Police directed traffic around the scene until the vehicle could be removed by V&M towing.
The driver of the vehicle, according to Bern Township Police, was adjusting the radio when vehicle, traveling southbound, drifted onto the shoulder and struck the curb on the south side of Red Bridge Rd.
Bern Twp. Fire Police Capt. Charlie Kerschner directed traffic around scene until the vehicle was removed. Normal traffic flow was resumed shortly after 08:00, and Engine55 returned to the Station.
