GFC, West Reading Rescue 64 and Western Berks Ambulance were dispatched at 07:20 Thursday morning for an MVA, with injuries, on northbound Rt. 183 on the Rt. 222 overpass.
Engine 55 arrived on scene at 07:29 to find that a Hyundai Elantra and a Dodge Grand Caravan had collided on the northbound Rt. 183- Rt. 222 overpass at the Rt. 222 on-ramp. The vehicles were blocking the intersection, and the drivers were still in their respective vehicles. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
The driver of the Dodge appeared to be uninjured; however the driver of the Hyundai had received a facial injury from the deploying air bag. GFC and Rescue 64 personnel assisted Western Berks EMTs with the extrication and placement of the injured driver into the awaiting ambulance. The patient was subsequently transported by Western Berks Ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Bern Township Fire Police directed traffic around the scene while rescue and clean-up operations were under way. Normal traffic flow was resumed shortly after 08:10.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Bern Township Police.
