At 07:32 on June 25, 2018 the GFC received a dispatched to assist Mt. Pleasant Co 30 with an MVA in the 5000 block of Rt. 183 near Ric’s Marine. It was reported that 2 vehicles and a motorcycle were involved.
Upon arrival the Engine 55 crew found that a motorcycle had been rear ended and sandwiched into the rear of a Mazda sedan. The motorcycle rider was on the road and unresponsive. Mt. Pleasant command instructed Engine 55 to close Rt. 183 at Palisades Dr. At this point FF Dylan Heckman became Fire Police Lt. Heckman and directed fire police activities.
Rt. 183 was closed between Palisades Drive and Hill Road while State police conducted their accident investigation. Vehicle traffic was detoured around the scene, except for Tractor trailers which were instructed to park on the southbound shoulder until the accident scene was cleared. At the time of this writing Rt. 183 was still closed.
The motorcycle rider was transported to the Reading Hospital by Northern Berks Ambulance. It was later learned that the rider had died from a severe head injury. There were no other injuries.
