At 16:54 on Thursday afternoon GFC Engine 55, West Reading Rescue 64, Temple Rescue 11, and Western Berks Ambulance received a dispatch for an elevator entrapment at the EnerSys World Headquarters building on Rt. 183.
The Engine 55 crew arrived at the EnerSys building at 17:01 and were advised that there were 2 people trapped in a stalled elevator located in the building’s new addition. GFC crewmembers proceeded to the location and found that the elevator was stalled near the building’s third floor lobby.
Deputy Chief Mahlon Auker, using an elevator door release key, was able to open the elevator’s door and affect the rescue of the 2 individuals trapped inside. They were in good spirits and declined any medical examination by EMTs.
A 17:07 the situation was turned over to EnerSys maintenance personnel who placed the elevator out of service and contacted an elevator service company.
Engine 55 returned to the station at 17:11.
