GFC crewmembers, along with those from Mt. Pleasant Co. 30 and Temple Co. 11 were dispatched to 2 separate vehicle fires within hours of each other at locations just a few hundred feet apart.
The first incident was dispatched at 4:19 p.m. A Chevrolet Trail Blazer and a Chrysler PT Cruiser had collided at the intersection of West Leesport Rd. and County Welfare Rd. resulting in the PT Cruiser catching fire.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Engine 55 crew found the Cruiser with its front end fully involved. Crewmembers attacked the fire with E55’s trash line. The fire was extinguished within minutes; however the PT Cruiser was a total loss.
The second vehicle fire was dispatched at 5:17 p.m. It involved a Ford Explorer, which for an unknown reason, caught fire on Rebers Bridge Rd. next to the entrance to Bern Pool. Again the E55 crew found the vehicle’s front end fully involved and employed E55’s trash line to extinguish the blaze. The vehicle, however, was totally destroyed.
V&M Towing removed the burnt out shells in both incidents, while the GFC crew removed debris from the roadway.
Bern Township Fire Police routed traffic around both scenes and were able to have normal flow restored within an hour of the incidents.
No one was injured in either incident.
Both fires are being investigated by the Bern Township Police.
Those responding for the GFC the first incident were: Deputy Chief Phil Haupt, Lt. Billy Pagan, FF Gary Rarick, FF Joe Green, FF Matt Haggard, and Photographer Steve Spies.
Those responding to the second incident were Deputy Chief Phil Haupt, FF Jenny Reedy, FF Terry Royce, Jr. FF Dylan Matz, and Photographer Steve Spies.
