On June 8th 2018 at 15:45 the GFC received a dispatch to assist Wyomissing Co 79 with a structure fire at the Vanity Fair Outlets in Wyomissing, There was a report of flames showing on the roof. Engine 55 responded.
Upon arrival Engine 55 staged at a hydrant on Cherry St. as a secondary water supply, and the crew reported to the manpower pool to stand by for assignments.
The VF building is under renovation and is gutted. The fire was started by welding activity on the fifth floor. Construction personnel tried to extinguish the fire with a handheld extinguisher, but were unsuccessful. At that point they called 911.
The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes and the Engine 55 crew was released about an hour later.
