At 13:30 on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, the GFC, along with West Reading Co. 64, Temple Co. 11 , Township of Spring Co. 85, and Western Berks Ambulance received a dispatch to an MVA with entrapment on Rt. 183 at Oak Grove Road.
Upon arrival the Engine 55 crew found two severely damaged sedans, but no entrapment.
The GFC crew, along with the other responding companies, assisted ambulance personnel tending to the injured. A total of four patients were transported to local area hospitals. Three of the patients had minor injuries while the fourth had suffered severe head trauma.
Once the patients were taken car of, the GFC and other crew-members removed crash debris and spilled fluids from the roadway.
Township Fire Police and Bern Township Police closed Route 183 between Aviation Road and South Tulpehocken Road, and diverted traffic around the scene. Route 183 was reopened around 14:30.
According to Bern Township Police a sedan travelling south on Rt. 183 crossed over into the northbound lane near Oak Grove Road and collided with the northbound sedan.
