At 02:51 on Friday Morning the GFC received a dispatch to assist Mt Pleasant Co. 30 with an MVA, with injury, on Plum Creek Rd. at Rt. 183.
While in rout Engine 55 personnel were informed by Co. 30 Command that the accident was actually located on Rt. 183 just north of James St. Because of there being utility poles down, and a significant amount of debris in the roadway, Co. 30 Command requested that the E55 crew close northbound Rt. 183 at Palisades Dr. and conduct traffic control until fire police could arrive to relieve them. Bern Township Fire police arrived at 03:07 and relieved the E55 crew, who then proceeded to the accident scene to assist Co. 30.
Upon arrival at the accident scene they found that a northbound Acura sedan had struck a mailbox and 2 utility poles. The vehicle had come to rest in the south bound lane of Rt. 183 about 50 feet north of the second utility pole that was struck.
One person was injured and was transported to a local area hospital by Schuylkill Valley EMS. The extent of the patient’s injurie was not disclosed.
The E55 crew assisted with debris removal, hazardous fluid clean-up and traffic control until they were released around 04:30.
Extra fire police were called in to re-rout tractor-trailer traffic back to Routs 222 and Interstate 78 while repair crews replaced the damaged utility poles.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
