On Wednesday, February 11@ 10:36 the GFC was dispatched to assist with a chimney fire in the 700 block of Reber’s Bridge Rd. in Lower Heidelberg Township.
At 10:51 Engine 55 arrived on scene with a crew of 4. E55 was instructed by Co. 18 Command to stage on Reber’s Bridge Rd. and have their personnel report to the manpower pool on the “A” side of the structure.
The E55 crew found Western Berks Ladder 18 positioning to access the chimney cap and interior firefighters from Co. 18 removing embers from the fireplace hearth. GFC firefighters assisted with ember removal, extinguishment of same, and structure ventilation.
Bern Township Fire Police closed Reber’s Bridge Rd. at the Bern Township side of the Reber’s Bridge. Reber’s Bridge Rd. was opened again to traffic shortly after 11:30.
Responding Companies, except Co. 18, were released around 11:30.
The cause of the fire was not specifically determined, but was most likely the result of poor chimney maintenance. There was no fire extension into the structure, and except for a lingering odor of smoke, the structure was undamaged.
