At 09:28 Tuesday, March 22, a dispatch was issued to Greenfields E55, along with Mt. Pleasant R30, and Schuylkill Valley EMS to respond to a 2 Vehicle MVA located on southbound Rt. 183 between Suburban Rd. and the exit to Rt. 222 south.
Upon arrival at the scene, the E55 crew found the 2 vehicles parked on the southbound shoulder of Rt. 183. Asst. Chief Terry Royce parked E55 diagonally across the southbound lane of Rt. 183 in order to create a buffer zone for emergency crews to safely work.
The 2 vehicles, a Mercedes Sedan and a Ford Escape Hybrid SUV, were involved in a rear end collision. The driver and lone occupant of the Mercedes complained of a head injury and was evaluated by Schuylkill Valley EMS, but refused transport. The driver of the SUV was uninjured.
The GFC crew immediately began working to remove hazardous fluids from the roadway. Meanwhile, FF Billy Pagan arrived in U55 and began diverting southbound traffic onto Suburban Rd. This allowed northbound traffic an unobstructed path past the accident scene, thus avoiding a major traffic back-up.
The Mercedes had sustained sufficient front end damage and was not drivable. It was removed from the scene by V&M Towing. The Ford SUV had only received minor damage to its rear bumper and was able to leave the scene under its own power.
Normal traffic flow was resumed shortly after 10:00 and all crews were released.
Those responding for the GFC were:

Asst. Chief Terry Royce
FF Billy Pagan
